What Is The Second Death?
The "Second Death" is a Biblical concept that is most commonly seen in the Book of Revelation. It refers to the death that awaits those not approved by the mainstream Christian version of God (a very easy thing to do, the dude loves his rules), and unlike those allowed into Heaven, the "Second Death" is utter annihilation; you are wiped from existence itself.Rough deal, isn't it? Well, fortunately for you SECOND DEATH has your back, and assures you that life will always continue, that you are more unkillable than you may think, and that even if hell is awaiting your arrival you can at least show up in style.
Who's Responsible For This?
I'm Jay! I'm a nonbinary lesbian artist based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! I have a history with death, ranging from having lots of backstage access to funeral homes during my childhood to my own relationship with traumatic grief. My queerness also relates to my views on death, as often queer people have to experience the process of death and rebirth within our own lifetimes. We die numerous times in our lives, grieving what we were and could have become, and yet something always reforms after the parting has passed. Life and love combine to create a force stronger than any form of annihilation.
Aesthetic Inspiration
SECOND DEATH was inspired by a wide range of interests and influences. Ancient Paganism, music that sounds like it was recorded under a bridge, the beautiful and flowery art of 70's shoujo manga, and the classic feel of old horror movies all mix together with intense colors and psychedelic influence to create art that aims to be both pleasing to the eye and vaguely threatening at the same time.
